Bowl Layoff a Factor

Florida outplayed Ohio State throughout the game. I could only believe the 50 plus day layoff had weighed heavily on the Buckeyes. Not sure that was the difference, but is was a difference and college presidents need to understand it and fix it.

NCAA Football Championship – Florida Over Ohio State Big

After Ohio State returned the opening kickoff (sans a holding call) for a touchdown, the Florida Gators’ defense took control holding the usually high powered Buckeye offense to one additional touchdown. Meanwhile, the Florida offense scored on 6 of 7 first half possessions and put up 41 on the Big Ten’s top ranked defense.

A December to Remember (coulda, shoulda, woulda)

Now that we have another week to wait before the NCAA Football title game, the full weight of what could have been hits deep in the belly of the college football fans. Let’s go way out on a limb and put together a fourteen team playoff in order to use the games played during the [...]

Louisville Tops Wake Forest

The Cardinals give it away twice and get it back three times in an ugly brawl in Miami.  Scoring the last 14 points of the fourth quarter, Louisville came from a 13-10 deficit to capture the Orange Bowl crown.   In a game full of miscues, Wake Forest simply made too many mistakes to win the [...]

Boise St. National Champs?

With an overtime win over Big 12 champion Oklahoma, the Broncos complete an undefeated 13-0 season and put their name in the hat for the national title. What a game played by both teams! Neither gave quarter, neither quit and the whole playbook was dusted off for this showdown in the desert. Now we wait [...]

USC Dismantles Michigan

In a game where the Wolverines, upset over not getting a second shot at Ohio State, never lead, the Trojans took charge in the second half and never looked back.  Big plays by Dwayne Jarret and a stingy defense stole the day for USC. Michigan had not played since the dual with Ohio State over [...]

Florida Gets Their Shot!

The computers call it a draw and the people polls put the Gators above the Wolverines.  Whether they voted for the Gators or for Ohio State not needing to beat Michigan twice, Florida now gets the shot to show if the SEC tough schedule can produce another national title.  The pollsters save the BCS some [...]

Sports Crossfire Polls – Gators go to Number 2

The Sports Crossfire College Football Polls have the Gators vaulting past USC and Michigan into the 2nd slot and suggesting they will head to Arizona for a shot at Ohio State. 67% of Sports Crossfire fans vote against a playoff. Give someone else a shot. Don’t make Ohio State beat Michigan twice. Both are valid [...]

Will they get it?

The Florida Gators earned the right to a shot at the NCAA Football Championship yesterday by winning their 12th game of the year yesterday against Arkansas. Going 7 and 1 in the difficult SEC with earlier wins against top 20 teams LSU and Tennessee are enough to put Florida into the Championship Game. Will it [...]

Who should meet on Jan. 7th?

Who really knows? Pat Forde at ESPN says it’s all conjecture, stating, “I’d personally cast a vote in favor of Florida. I agree that a team should win its conference title to play for the national title. I don’t like the idea of putting the best team in America in double jeopardy against an opponent [...]
